The song and, above all, the accompanying video were made in 2024 during Jeremias Heppeler’s residency in Tatsuno, Japan. There is much vacant housing in the small town; many life histories have left only traces. This circumstance, along with the marked belief in (nature) spirits, is addressed in looking @ ghosts by means of abstract dance, animation and masks.

This film intertwines an interpretation of the ancient Chinese tale '离魂记' (Spirit Out of Body) with travel footage captured at Shofuso, a Japanese architectural transplanted from Japan. This work explores the relationship between distant places and our bodies. A contemplation of the annihilation of space by time.

A two-way mirror with the lights switched off. Eyes are tracked and attentions are plotted as a fictitious audience follows the narrator’s orders. They are divided by the screen and, though they try, neither can see through to the other side. We can’t be sure if the bond they form is reciprocal or if the audience was ever even there to begin with.
